5 Realistic Nutrition Hacks for Busy People | Personal Training Costa Mesa

Personal Training in Costa Mesa - The Training Spot

The truth is, everyone is busy.  The busier we are, the more difficult it can be to sustain fitness and nutrition goals. Especially if they require us to start new habits among our usual routine.

So how can you avoid compromising the success of a healthy nutrition plan while maintaining your busy schedule? Health hacks, that’s how.

Here are 5 tricks that don’t take much time but can make a massive difference. Many of our clients who joined one of our program will tell you that these tricks are now just habits of their fast paced lives.

Trick 1: Familiarize yourself with nutrition information

Give your nutrition knowledge a boost. Learn how to read a nutrition label so that you can quickly compare products on the supermarket shelf as well as keep a mental list of foods that you can easily choose from. For those times when you need to grab a meal on-the-go from a food outlet, familiarize yourself with menu offerings so that you have a few go-to places in mind. Also, nutrition information is now mandatory in most states, making it easier to make healthy food choices. **You want to pay close attention to the serving size, as this number tells you the suggested amount for one serving but also is the basis for the entire label.

Trick 2: Cook once, store and eat many times

Don’t cook each meal individually. Prepare your meals for the coming week in bulk over the weekend and portion each meal into separate containers. While it might require some time to prepare, it will save countless hours during the week by cutting down on unnecessary visits to the supermarket, food preparation, and cooking. Having meals on hand will also make it less tempting to make impulse unhealthy choices during the week.

Trick 3: Keep an emergency snack bag on hand, always

Avoid letting yourself get too hungry to prevent reaching for sugary foods or overeating hours later. Our hack: carry your own snacks with you wherever you go. Our clients succeed by splitting their goodies up into zip lock bags.  Whether it’s fruit, nuts, a hard-boiled egg, or a healthy protein bar, bring it with you so you don’t waste time looking for food you might regret later.

Trick 4: Buy in Bulk

You’re busy. Which means, you are probably not going to have time to make multiple supermarket runs throughout the week. The healthiest foods to buy in bulk are your grains (like brown rice, millet, barely, and oats), which you can keep in airtight containers or jars. You can also buy frozen veggies, frozen fruits and dried beans.

Trick 5: Get home delivery

Make healthy eating easier by having your meals delivered to you. After a long day at work, sometimes the last thing you want to do is spend time in the kitchen. Of course, in a perfect world, meals would be pre-planned, and cooking and eating would cure the day’s stress, not cause it. Luckily, fresh and healthy ready-to-eat meals can now be delivered straight to your doorstep to make life that little bit easier. Store a few meals in the fridge at home and at work such as these delicious healthy meals from All Purpose Meal Prep. By not cooking or grocery shopping, you could free up 15 hours of your time a week.

So there you go: 5 tricks to maintain a  nutrition plan no matter how busy you are. Eating well doesn’t have to be hefty and it certainly doesn’t require a complete lifestyle overhaul. Rather, it is:

“the cumulative effect of small, realistic changes”
