Every single January in every gym in America, hundreds of thousands of people start over in a process they will soon quit. Primarily because they have not set themselves up with the right expectation. They aren’t looking for incremental progress that will last a lifetime, they are looking for results they can feel. Some sort of breakthrough. And they never had a chance.
It is easy to go to the gym. And it is easy not to go too. And because of that seemingly insignificant choice not to go, so many people live in despair.
When I considered how to share this next part with you, I wanted to do so with conviction. And it only took me a moment to decide how.
You may have heard of Mahatma Gandhi. He shared a quote or two in his prime. Here is a couple before my next segment.
• “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
• “A man is but a product of his thoughts. What he thinks he becomes.”
• “Be the change that you want to see in the world.”
• “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”
• “Change yourself – you are in control.”
• “Without action, you aren’t going anywhere.”
And my favorite quote regarding mentality, “Whether you think you can or cannot, you’re right.” That is powerful! I’m sharing these with you because they all speak so much about mindset. It’s everything!
So many people live life with one foot in the past, saying “Oh if things were different, I would be successful.” And the other foot in the future saying, “When this happens, then I will be happy or successful.” And they completely ignore the present, which is all we really have. It’s only the decisions you make in the moment that will truly help you feel that breakthrough.
Decide today, but more importantly, decide every single day.
